* Jim Harper explains how John McCain is inadvertently helping al Qaeda recruit members. “Calling the threat of terrorism ‘transcendent’ is equal parts incoherent and false,” writes Harper. “Terrorism stands no chance of defeating the United States or the West unless we ourselves collapse the society. Speaking this way about terrorism thrills our terrorist enemies and draws recruits and support to them. Silence would be much better”.

* A grave injustice has been inflicted upon Hamdan, an American military detainee. What is this injustice? Check out Scott Horton’s post for the details.

* More evidence that the American war on drugs is unconstitutional. I wonder if a similar argument could be mounted in Australia?

* Ronald Bailey reports from Montana on the four ways smart people have devised of saving you from global warming.

* Did you know that Barack Obama’s foreign policy adviser once advocated war with North Korea? Yeah, me neither.

* Does Iran have a more humane drug policy than the US? It just might, writes Anthony Gregory.  After the Islamic Revolution of 1979, “the government tried a more traditional approach: arresting drug users and putting them in jail. But two decades later, it recognized that this approach had failed”.
